Master Trooper Ayers has been serving the Commonwealth for over 25 years. Since 1992 he has served as the department chaplain. Since 1995 he has been working with D.A.R.E. and in 2003 was named VA D.A.R.E. Officer of the year. He is currently the State D.A.R.E. Coordinator. He also serves on Substance Abuse Prevention Committee and also as lead officer for the youth alcohol abuse prevention project.

He has facilitated D.A.R.E. trainings in Virginia and nationally since 2000. He is also a certified counselor with the American Association of Christian Counselors. He has been married to his wife for 30 years. At the National D.A.R.E Conference in Texas was named the 2008 National D.A.R.E. Officer of the year.
