SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL D.A.R.E. PROGRAM
During the 1990/91 school year, 5 officer/teacher teams from 4 school divisions and the Virginia Departments of Education and State Police implemented the D.A.R.E. curriculum at the Senior High School Level. During the 2006-2007 school year, officer/teacher teams presented this level of D.A.R.E. to 4736 students. The curriculum is currently under revision by D.A.R.E. America with the University of Akron creating the material. The new material will include seven lessons and is at the pilot stage of completion with dissemination of the materials forthcoming.
The current D.A.R.E. Senior High Curriculum consists of the following ten lessons:
- Introduction to D.A.R.E. Senior High
- Costs, Supply, and Demand
- Decisions and Consequences
- Teenagers and the Law
- Driving While Impaired
- Zero Tolerance and Drug Testing
- Drugs, Media, and Violence
- Managing Anger and Resolving Conflicts without Drugs
- Choosing Alternatives to Violence
- Forming Safe and Healthy Teen Relationships
In addition to the above listed lessons, a stand-alone presentation on the dangers of methamphetamine use is now available for high school students.
The recently released prescription and over the counter drug misuse curriculum also contains a stand alone lesson on the dangers of abuse of Rx and OTC drugs..
