Bill Jones was elected to Salem City Council in 2008 in what many saw as a “Sign of the Times.”

The owner of Fast Signs, a successful Salem-Roanoke based business since 1998, had been interested in serving on City Council ever since he was a young boy growing up in the city.

Jones graduated from Glenvar high school in 1977 and later studied business at Virginia Western Community College.  For 21 years he worked in the Human Resources department at Salem-based Yokohama Tire before going into business on his own.
He is extremely active at his home church, Bethel Baptist, where he serves as a deacon and youth Sunday school teacher.  Jones also is a member of the Salem Kiwanis Club and former member of both the Salem Rotary club and the Salem Jaycees.

Jones met his wife, Mary Ann, while the two were high school sweethearts at Glenvar.  The couple has two sons – Andy, a Clemson graduate, who is an assistant administrator of a nursing home in Blacksburg, and Adam, a sports management major at West Virginia University.

Jones also is one of Salem’s biggest sports fans and supporters.  He’s been a coach and referee at various levels for 25 years and he’s a member of the Salem Sports Foundation.
