Jane Johnson was originally elected to Salem City Council in 2004 after serving for two years on the city’s Planning Commission. The business owner and mother of two is no stranger to hard work and civic duty.
Jane was born in Huntington, New York, attended Virginia Tech and settled down in Salem with her husband Robert M. “Bob” Johnson, II to own and operate R.M. Johnson & Sons Jewelers, a retail fixture in downtown Salem since 1992. When Bob unexpectedly passed away in 2005, Jane took over as President of the company and continues to operate the popular store today.
During her days in Salem, Jane has been the President of both the West Salem elementary and Andrew Lewis middle school PTAs. Her oldest son, Mack, is now a junior in college, while Zack is a junior at Salem high school. She is also a life member of the Virginia PTA, but her civic involvement extends far beyond the city’s schools.
Jane is currently on the Better Business Bureau’s board of directors, a committee member for the Western Virginia Regional Jail Authority, a Virginia Municipal League Legislative Committee member and a member of the Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission.
Jane is a member of Salem’s First United Methodist Church and a past President of the Salem Jaycees. She is currently an active member of the Salem Rotary Club who enjoys gardening, snow skiing, biking and watching her sons play lacrosse.
